Belgian malinois head About Us

Samie Jones has been a student of dog behaviour all her life. She loves and admires all performance dogs — those who work for a living like herding dogs, police K9s, guide dogs and service dogs — as well as sport dogs that willingly play with us in Schutzhund, agility, competition obedience, etc.

Sam (& her husband Warren) were introduced to dog training, Search & Rescue and Schutzhund in the early 1980s. Sam and her first Aussie "Logan" (Logan of Cheshire CD TD Std Sheep, ducks) were members of California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA), the Davis Dog Training Club (where they competed in obedience and tracking and assisted in teaching obedience classes), and the Northern California Australian Shepherd Club where they showed Aussies in conformation, obedience and herding.

Since moving to Montana in 1986, Sam & Warren have been heavily involved in Schutzhund, competing in the early years with an Aussie "CH Woodstock's Maggie Mae SchH1 CD(X)", & German shepherd "Ryker vom Polarstern SchH3 IPO3 FH CD" More German shepherds followed (including "Hawkeye SchH3" and "Saga SchH2 CD") and most recently, several Malinois (including "Harley SchH3 IPO3 CD" and "Lexi SchH2 IPO3 CDX" and "Zappa IPO1 CDX" and "Dax IPO1 CD"). On a fateful January in 2005, Samie entered her first Agility trial with an awesome Aussie named "Cosmic Corbie" who, at twelve years old, is now NATCH (NADAC agility trial champion) MX (AKC Masters Agility) and MXJ (AKC Masters Agility Jumpers).

Since then agility has taken over, and you can find Sam every weekend at an agility trial somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, while Warren is a USA Performance Judge, judging Schutzhund trials across the country.

Starting in July of 2007, Sam traveled to agility trials and dog shows with the K9FUNdamentals store, an ever-growing selection of motivational and interactive training toys, collars and leashes, and other training "essentials". Keeping sport dogs motivated to work at a high level is a challenge. Sam's background in training and competition taught her that the best dog training is directed play, and she brings that knowledge and experience to both her instruction and the K9FUNdamentals store.

In May of 2012, Warren was diagnosed with an agressive brain tumour, which changed everything. As of Fall 2014, Samie is just now getting back in to teaching. She taught a variety of classes at Yellowstone Dog Sports over the summer, re-igniting her love of sharing motivational training techniques with people and their dogs. She is currently working on the fall line-up of classes and hopes to get back to a regular schedule.
